Martini glass piñata

This is a Martini glass piñata. Its made mostly from newspaper, other than its cardboard base. We’ll put up another picture when it’s completed.

We've played around with the pieces to make a hat or a lamp. We wish we had more time to play with this one but its due to be delivered on Friday.

Pokemon hanging storage space

 It was my friends sons birthday party today. He's very into his pokemon. The present hadn't arrived in time for his party so I thought I'd knock up a quick pokemon piñata. Feeling quite pleased with myself I showed it to the lad in question who cheerfully let me know that they already had a piñata for the party.






After a nice cup of tea I had the bright idea of turning it into hanging storage instead. It was very popular with the kids there and I ended up explaining to several of them how to make their own. Which lead me to writing this post.

I made this using a punch ball instead of a balloon as a base. Nowadays you can even buy punch balls at the local supermarket. http://thepinatalady.blogspot.com/p/making-pinata.html you can use these instructions on how to make a piñata, although you need at least six layers of papier mache to make the base, depending on how strong you want it. Then its simply a case of adding a final layer of colour. You can even make yours open like a pokeball is meant to and find inventive ways of making them close. If I'd known this was going to be hanging storage rather than a piñata I would have used old pictures of pokemon to 'wallpaper' the inside of the sphere, or at least plain white paper! Although, I'm sure the lucky boy who's got this will enjoy decorating his own.

Gung hay fat choy!

It just happens to be Chinese new year today - which is actually where Pinata's are thought to originate from.

I figure its a great excuse to smash one up at our house tonight.

At the end of February it will have been one year and over 130 piñatas since selling that first penisata. Time for some publicity and nagging over the website. At the moment I'm up to my neck in hearts and flowers.

Elephant piñata vs the robot

Our deadline for these two piñatas was today. The elephant is just over a meter long to give you an idea of size..To give you an idea of prices the elephant would cost around £60 and the robot £45 although it is possible to produce a cheaper less detailed version of either. For instance the robot didn't need to have moving arms and legs!

Piñata letters and piñata numbers

 

We can do letters or numbers either in a banner form or as a piñata.

They can be decorated in any way you want. We opted for something quite simple to get the most use out of it!

A whole lot of love on my dresser.

At 5 am one morning I was woken up by a rustling downstairs. I expected to find a stranger stood there in the darkness, my heart was pounding. Turns out it was all of the heart shaped piñata bases turning into mush as their balloons deflated prematurely.

After a lot of repairs and rebuilding here we are.

Now there's just another 20 odd heart and flower piñatas to do for upcoming weddings!

Furniture repairs and other papier mache projects

You can buy these storage boxes from ikea that look like crates. They're easily broken which is not ideal when you've children around!

We've got fed up of having to repair mine so this time We've tried using papier mache pulp to hold it together. It took several days to dry and looks like the bench is held together with spit wads.

we've only just put it together and its a little creaky to sit on. Only time will tell if the papier mache filling works. 




This is our other current papier mache project. Its a marble box. Or rather the base of one. It will probably take weeks to dry. Its possibly 5/6th attempt as we kept getting impatient and trying to have a better look. If this one falls apart its going to be a long time before we can bring ourselves to start again!

Alice in wonderland piñatas

It can also easily turned into a very interesting and unique storage box - perfect for someone with clutter and a thing for Alice's adventures!

Dolphin piñata

Very cute and popular design so we usually keep some in stock. This one is a donation to a local school raffle. 

 This piñata measures around 60cm from nose to tail and would cost £15 for a simple version.

Lotus flower in the moonlight.

This is my most recent painting. When I showed it to my children the eldest insisted it looked more like an autumn leaf. We decided to ask the youngest what her opinion was - does it look more like a leaf or a flower? Her answer was that it looked like 'a piece of poo on fire'. She's two and so very literal. I just hope the owner likes it! My spec was the grey background to match the contrasting walls in the room with bright colours, mainly orange. Hopefully they'll think its a lovely image of a lotus flower in the moonlight and not that the painting looks like poo.

Table top vase piñatas

Sometimes there is just nowhere convenient to hang a piñata. These table top vase piñatas made lovely table decorations at a leaving party. When the meal was done each guest chose a paper flower to pull and inside the vase were a selection of sweets and other little party favours.

A vase like this would cost around £25-35. These are around 4O cm tall including the flowers. 

They can be made in a fun style or opt for a more tasteful version and colour co-ordinated to suit any event. You can even reuse them.

They're also available in a more solid form so that they can be used as decorative vases.

This last picture is the completed version of this piñata. The lady who received them said they looked lovely on the table and that she could keep them to remind her of a fantastic evening.
 

Valentines day pinatas

Each heart is handmade and therefore unique so sizes and shapes are approximate. 

The white rose heart piñata has a contrasting black background. It measures around 50cm at its widest point and would cost £40 including postage. Discounts are available for multiple orders.

The black heart is a very simple design and would therefore cost around £20-30 (including postage) depending on the complexity of the order.  They're also available in different materials as well as styles.

Christmas piñatas

The hat and scarf on this snowman we've just stuck on to see what they looked like.

They're a fantastic decoration that can be smashed up at the office Christmas party.

There are quite a few other examples on here in different styles and sizes.

The shoe rack that dreamed of becomming a table.

We've finally decided what to turn the old university notes into a shoe rack! Its taken about 4 days so far from sorting out notes to turning them into pulp and then making a start on the actual piece. We're hoping this lot will be dry by the end of the weekend so that we can at least make the first shelf!

We have discussed turning it into a dining room table at some point in the future. With over 60 piñatas in the house space is a bit of an issue! We'll see how it turns out though and how strong the whole thing is by the time we've finished! We'd like a bit more practice before we make a start on the chairs but its about time we replaced our current shoe storage so at least this will do in the mean time. Its better than risking having a table collapse in the middle of dinner. Once we've made a few pieces we might price a few bits up and have a piñata lady furniture range. Lets just see how well this one lasts first!

Fancy doing something a little bit different this Easter?

We have several Easter egg bases on offer, starting from £15. These can be decorated to your taste with pretty flowers, monster faces,or whatever floats  your boat. We have big ones, little ones, giant ones, ones that fit inside each other and even one that will give you a special massage and make you a cup of tea on a morning!

Only kidding about the last one. We've also got chick bases and rabbit and duck moulds ready just in case. We plan on finishing a few in time for Easter. Including our own as We're going to make the kids work for their chocolate this year!

Piggy banks with personality

Piggy bank (several bases) from £30. These measure around 50cm from nose to tail. Click on this text for more pictures.This is a new design that's proved to be quite popular. The first three are already claimed and I'll keep making more as they're great stock for craft stalls (and last minute presents!).

They can also be used as piñatas, although they're strengthened and made in response to being nagged to make things that don't automatically get smashed up.

The first three are made for young children so instead of the usual slots they've been made so that pennies can be poked up their nose or fed to them. The pigs can then be shaken upside down to make them 'poo' out the pennies. Or at least they will when they're finished!

I can be tasteful, its just more fun not to sometimes!

Stag night piñata

This stag night piñata is for http://www.iamstaggered.com/ and is our first corporate piñata. The staff at Staggered are well informed and lovely, We'd recommend looking them up if you're organising a stag do. There's loads of free and useful information on their website for the groom to be.

This is more of a pulpture style piñata as we wanted to experiment and see just how close to perfect we could get all the details. We haven't actually used pulp this is all made from layered paper, mostly newspapers recycled from local business's.

Storage boxes.

We needed a new laundry basket in a rush so I decided to knock up a quick one. Its an old printer box covered in a few layers of papier mache. This is a very simple design and doesn't have to be so garish! The kids seem to like it.

Wally's Fundraising shindig for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre

The raffle prize- I thought I'd donate a custom made piñata to Wally's fundraising shindig held at the Audio nightclub in Batley.                         However, they decided they'd rather have a giant wanger for comedy value. So here's an interesting package of adult piñatas instead. There's a giant penisata, a whip, handcuffs and a butt plug. They're all crammed as full as I could manage with a selection of the sweets and other treats shown in this picture.

The anatomical piñatas are great for fund raising and raising awareness for events like this. Obviously they're not appropriate for family events but they are a lot of fun at the adult ones!
